There is not a lot of new information here, but the book is a well-written guide full of the things most writers take for granted. The first part of the book is devoted to basic mistakes WE all make in everyday writing as well as professional writing. Sometimes we are in a hurry and forget things, other times we write down everything in a dump all fashion boring readers with too much detail. It seems obvious that all writers need to focus on their audience, setting, and consistently deliver their message, but how often is the writer distracted from the goal?The second part of the guide focuses on grammar and spelling.. Reminders include avoiding ly words, excessive use of exclamation points, using incorrect word choice or not following submission guidelines. This handbook is an excellent guide to have at your side as a quick reminder because we all get sloppy and careless at one time or another no matter how proficient a writer we believe ourselves to be.

This book is a basic guide to proper writing. Although it's not comprehensive in talking about grammar, it's helpful! I really appreciated Eva Marie's conversational style, and I liked it that she talked about the importance of writing great first lines.

I loved the conversational tone it's written in because it makes this type of book less boring and easier to understand. I knew some of the content from having taught seventh and eighth grade English, but I still made a few notes. It is common to make mistakes when it comes to words not often used so this neat little book is a quick, nifty source to use as a reference and easy to read. I always remembered the use of principal from the principal is a pal. You'll see what I mean if you read the book. This reference source would be especially helpful to new writers.

Everson's book is practical, easy to navigate, and useful. The perfect read for the beginning writer or for someone who wants to brush up on the basics of editing. Helpful as a reference tool, also.

I enjoyed reading this book. Eva gave pointers that made editing (and writing) a book easier. Some of the mistakes I've made were highlighted and some things were clarified.

SUPER! Nothing short of a must have addition to any writer, new or seasoneds', arsenal of writing helps. Eva Marie Everson breaks down those common writing boo-boos, simplifies them, describes them, and fixes them all in one swift sitting. This book is simple and to the point. It stays by my computer for everything I write.

I really enjoyed this book. It had an easy conversational tone. It was never boring and really made you ponder your writing skills. I would whole heartedly recommend this book.
