About the Author

Brian Stelfreeze is a painter, penciller, and comic book artist who has worked for nearly every major American comic book publisher. While Stelfreeze has been known throughout his career primarily as a cover artist, painting more than fifty cover illustrations for DC Comics' Shadow of the Bat, he's also produced a significant amount of sequential work, including BOOM1 Studios' Day Men and Matador for DC Comics' Wildstorm imprint. He is one of the original members of Atlanta's Gaijin Studios.

Brian Stelfreeze is one of those artists that I stumbled upon a few years back and it was love at first sight! His art style is absolutely amazing and I'm particularly fond of his use of water colors and how he so effortlessly controls any medium he uses. When I first found out this book was to be released I instantly pre ordered it and sat by the mailbox everyday like a little child on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa to come down the chimney. This book does not disappoint. Not only is Brian's art so beautifully showcased, but the book itself is well designed and nicely put together. I absolutely LOVE this book! Money very well spent!

I should disclose that I've known Brian for almost 30 years and I've been fortunate enough to see his work (and see him work) in person many times. Still, I bought this book (and was really excited to do so) through Amazon, and gave as a gift to my husband (who has known Brian even longer than I have) simply because Brian's artwork is amazing.I loved everything about this book -- the clean, minimalist, layout and design, the great short written pieces from Brian's friends and colleagues, and most of all the artwork itself. Individually, Brian's pieces are gorgeous. But, being able to go through so many of them, in one place, page after page, was breathtaking. There's an emotion in his work that's hard to describe. And the beauty of it is that what he is able to communicate with pencil and paint can appeal to anyone -- comic fans and traditional art fans alike. His work is just technically and emotionally good.I would recommend this book to anyone who already loves Brian's art or to anyone who wants to see what it's all about.

This was a Christmas gift for my grandson. He fell in love with it in a bookstore due to all the beautiful paintings and how the artist showed the procedure of many of the paintings. He loves art and this book will help him with his artwork.

I don't buy many books these days (mostly because I just don't have any shelf space left), so when I do get one, it should be something special. This book was everything I'd hoped it would be. It's oversized 12' x 12" format allows a lot of room for showcasing Stelfreeze's stunning art. It's 192 pages gives you quite a comprehensive look at the many facets of his work. There are watercolor illustrations, covers, interior pages, comps, sketches, designs, and several process sections.All of this in a beautifully designed book worthy of the artist himself. This is a gorgeous coffee table sized book! Wonderful printing, clear and beautiful detail of his art. A gem to have. The designer of the book gets my congratulations as well, due to it's stunning layout and design. I am beyond satisfied in having this in my collection!
